I am an experienced Integrative psychotherapist and EMDR practitioner with over 10 years experience as a therapist. I remain a registered mental health nurse, having worked in a variety of mental health settings over the years including, eating disorders, drug and alcohol services and military mental health. Although my experience is wide ranging, my particular specialism is in the treatment of trauma related issues such as PTSD (Post traumatic Stress Disorder) using EMDR. EMDR is a revolutionary therapy that is helping a rapidly increasing number of people let go of painful experiences, memories, or beliefs. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing and was discovered by American Psychologist, DR. Francine Shapiro.
By using the brains natural healing processes, EMDR therapy can quickly resolve many emotional problems and conditions which previously have been difficult to treat with other forms of therapy.
EMDR uses alternate eye movements, sounds or taps to stimulate the brain and help to process difficult or traumatic memories. The aim of treatment is for you to ‘remember without distress'. Clients report that memories become less distressing and often just seem like ‘ordinary’ memories after treatment is completed. EMDR is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence for the treatment of PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and it is also now commonly used for the treatment of problems such as complex bereavement, anxiety, phobias and depression.
